The textbook is Calculus for the Life
Sciences, by Greenwell, Ritchey and Lial.
This
course covers parts of
Chapters 9-13 of the textbook
Lectures are held on Tuesdays and
Thursdays in Keller 303.
General Expectations: The Math Department's
general
expectations of students.
Prerequisites: Math 215 or
consent.
Grading: There will be
two midterm exams worth
100
points each, and a comprehensive final (May 15, 12-2, in our classroom) worth 160 points. Graded
homework
will
be worth a total of 80 points. My usual grade
cutoffs
are 90% for A, 80% for B, 65% for C and 50% for D. These may vary,
however; actual grade cutoffs will be announced after each exam. For
the sake of illustration, suppose the cutoffs for A on the exams and
homework are 90, 88, 135 and 45; then the
cutoff for an A in the class would be 90+88+145+70=393 out of 440.
Homework:
There will
be some paper-and-pencil handed-in homework assignments. Most
of
the homework will be done
on-line at the Webwork site.
