Four Ways To Get Credit By Examination At UHM: AP, CLEP, International Baccalaureate and Departmental Examinations

The University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) encourages independent learners to earn college course credits by examination. Four examination systems are recognized, and separate WEB page descriptions are provided for the first three listed below. On those WEB pages are listed what scores are needed on specific examinations to obtain credits (or waivers of some prerequisites). The first three options are most often used by students entering from high school, and the credits apply to freshmen and sophomore courses. The last option, at departmental discretion, can be applied to any course.

• AP: Advanced Placement from CEEB.
• CLEP: College-Level Examination Program from CEEB. These are given on campus on a monthly basis. Some of the examinations may only be taken by students with fewer than 24 semester credit hours, and many may be taken by any student.
• International Baccalaureate higher level examinations
• Departmental Examinations: any UHM department may decide to offer an examination for credit in any course offered by that department. Please contact the department directly. This page was revised on 2/21/98.
