• Matches are case insensitive (except for the Author field), substring matches without regard to order. So if you enter Free lattice in the title field, it will match both "Free Lattices" and "Lattices which are free."
• If you enter 198 for the year, you get all papers published in the 1980's.
• Fields can be left blank.
• Regular expression (without the /'s) are allowed. You probably won't need this sophistication but here are some examples of how you might use this:
  • An entry 198[3456] or 198[3-6] in the Year field will find all entries the years 1983 through 1986, inclusive.
  • An entry Freese|Nation in the author field will get all papers where either Nation or I are among the authors.
  • \b is used for word boundries, so \bgroup in the Title field will papers whose title includes "group," "groups," "groupoid," but not "semigroup" or "quasigroup."
• The program will print at most 200 entries.

• Help in writing papers. Suppose you are writing a paper and need to refer to Hobby and McKenzie's book on tame congruence theory. You should do a search by entering Hobby McKenzie in the author field. From this you will see that the identification key is HobbyMcKenzie1988. In your latex file you use the command \cite{HobbyMcKenzie1988}. You should also make a bib file and put the whole entry in it. You can do this with cut and paste.

  If your paper will refer to say several papers by Kearnes you can just enter Kearnes in the author field and then save the resulting output to a file. This file will have a few lines of html code at the beginning and end. After you delete these you will have a valid BibTeX file.

• Searching for a particular topic. When you are doing reseach and are looking for papers that deal with a certain topic you can enter one or more relevant words in the title field.

• Add new entries to the database.
• Change an entry in the database.
