Students assemble the submersible shown below. After the vehicle is built, students get to test it in a small pool. The children pull a “MacGyver” by using a simple Gatorade bottle, plastic propeller, a straw, and a rubber band to create their very own underwater vehicle. They used lead weights on their vehicles so that they can make it sufficiently buoyant. The children loved this activity so much that during a much later visit with them they brought out the very same vehicles that they had created previously!
